The SEEC Energy Accumulator

Lately, electrically powered air heat pumps have become more common for heating. An air heat pump heats a building by using a compressor to extract energy from the outside air. It has one major disadvantage. In the winter, when the outside temperature is low, the compressor needs a lot of electrical energy to extract the energy. The colder it gets, the more energy is needed for heating, and at the same time, the more electrical energy is required by the compressor. With cooling, the problem is the opposite. The warmer it gets outside, the more energy is needed for cooling, and at the same time, the more electrical energy is required by the compressor to disperse excess heat through fans on the outside of the building.

The SEEC Energy Accumulator solves this problem by replacing the outside air with an Energy Well. An Energy Well is a borehole with a u-shaped pipe inserted into it. With an Energy well, we extract energy to heat the building in the winter from a place that is much warmer than the outside air, and in the summer, we can disperse the excess heat from the building into a place that is much cooler than the outside air. By doing this, we substantially reduce the need for electrical energy.

The Energy Well is connected to the Energy Management Unit, the heart of the SEEC Energy Accumulator. It contains the compressor, valves, a circulation pump, heat exchangers, a water heater, an accumulator tank and a Linux based control system. The accumulator tank allows the compressor to run more efficiently by evening out short term variations in the need for heating or cooling of the building. The control system can be accessed remotely through a web interface. The operation of the SEEC Energy Accumulator is reversible and it can be used for heating and hot water production as well as for cooling.

The SEEC Energy Accumulator increases the degree of efficiency substantially. By replacing cold air in the winter and hot air in the summer with an Energy Well, it substantially increases the Coefficient of Performance, COP, and correspondingly reduces the need for electrical energy.

During the warm part of the year, as long as there is excess heat daytime, the SEEC Energy Accumulator accumulates energy and stores it in the Energy Well. This energy is used to make hot water and, if needed, to heat the building at night.

The Energy Management Unit is delivered complete with everything included. Apart from connecting it to the building, no other installation work is needed. It has a management and control systems that is based on open standards, e.g. Linux. It is connected to the Internet and accessible through a web interface, so it can be managed and controlled remotely. This makes it possible to provide “virtual on site support”.

In summary: Using the SEEC Energy Accumulator, you will substantially increase your Coefficient of Performance, COP, reduce your need for energy, reduce your emission of greenhouse gases and reduce your cost.

With the SEEC Energy Accumulator you get the energy solution of the future today!
